East New Zealand

Tauranga presides over the Bay of Plenty, and it's port town, Mt Maunganui, is very popular in Summer for young people. The Bay of Plenty is an active volcanic area, and White Island periodically erupts.

The East Coast includes East Cape (known simply as the Cape) and leads to Hawkes Bay. This whole area is especially productive of fruit. Gisborne is the area where Europeans were first thought to have been welcomed in New Zealand - and is also the 1st city in the world to see the new day's rising sun.
